BOULDER CREEK FALLS |
||
| RATING - 7/10 TYPE OF APPROACH - Bushwhack DIFFICULTY - Extremely Difficult LOCATION - Baker Lake Area TYPE - Tiered HEIGHT - 230' WIDTH - 25' |
This one was on my to-do list for quite a while before I finally got it done. The falls begin with an 80' plunge that is followed almost immediately by a 15' drop. Just below that the creek horsetails for another 75-80' in a narrow slot. The 4th drop is another 15' plunge into a little pool. From there the creek drops about 35' into a narrow slot and makes a couple more little drops where the creek narrows to about 3' wide. Upon exiting the little gorge, Boulder Creek has one last finale, shooting out and dropping another 15' to join another fork of the creek. While this is a very nice waterfall, it suffers from the typical North Cascades "can't see the whole falls from one spot" syndrome. It's also extremely tough to get to so I recommend just leaving this one alone unless you're a real stickler for punishment. |

| DIRECTIONS - This one sounds simple but it's anything but. Drive north along the Baker Lake Road to the big bridge over Boulder Creek. It's impossible to miss because it's by far the largest bridge on the road and it goes over a very wide creek bed. Park near the bridge and head upstream for about 3 miles. Take the right at the first fork and follow the creek up steeply. When the creek forks again, the falls will be just up the right fork. To view the upper sections of the falls requires a steep, but not too difficult trip up the hill along the right side of the creek. | ||
