LOWER WALLACE FALLS |
||
| RATING - 6/10 TYPE OF APPROACH - Trail DIFFICULTY - Medium LOCATION - Gold Bar Area TYPE - Tiered HEIGHT - 200' WIDTH - 20' |
|
Lower Wallace Falls is a series of five drops on the Wallace River. The first drop is a series of cascades (below right) that can be seen along with the main drop of Middle Wallace Falls through the trees. The second (below left) and third tiers are plunges of around 30' each. Below that the river drops over a plunge of around 50' (left) and finally over a taller, sliding drop. Only the first two tiers are easily seen. I found a scary viewing platform for the 4th tier just off the trail but the view is sort of dangerous and not recommended. |
| DIRECTIONS - Drive
east on Highway 2 from Monroe to Gold Bar and follow the signs to the parking lot.
Follow the trail to the falls. You can actually take two different routes. The
left fork is longer and not as steep as the right. In 1.7 miles, the trail will
reach a picnic shelter and the viewing area for the lower falls. NEARBY WATERFALLS - Middle Wallace Falls, Upper Wallace Falls |
